Dad arrived early Friday morning, but he said he slept like a rock on the plane. So, we hit the town, seeing Santiago with Jonathan as our tour guide. He tells about the history of the country, and we ate lunch in the old historic train station, which is now a fish market. (there are no pictures of this.) That night, Jonathan had to work, but Dad was still up for a visit to meet the Loyola Castro family. Here we are with Rosita (the mother), and Marcela (the 19 yr old daughter).
Saturday, we headed out of town to the clear air at the foot of the mountains (or the "skirt" of the mountains as we say here). We ate at an excellent side of the road place, super quiet, which allowed us a very long conversation!!!, and the best "pastel de choclo" (Corn pie) we've ever had!
The place is called "Cajon del Maipo", and it took us about two hours to get there by bus, subway, bus, and then a collective taxi.
It was so good to be in a place with clean air. Santiago has hideous smog, still not having had rain this late in the fall.
Jonathan appears by shadow in this one.
We went to the beach on Monday, but Dad had a meeting there, so we really only hung out in the bus. Thanks, Dad, for free trip to the beach!
Just hanging out at the beach
The last day, Jonathan had to work in the evening, so this was our final time together at Starbucks. Jonathan so enjoyed laughing with Dad and being able to share our story with him.
And Jonathan cut his hair after Dad left. He had been wanting to, but because of intense joking from the public, he knew it was better to wait until after Dad's visit. He has a beard again now, but I have no current pictures.
